How well do you know your town? Do you know the easiest routes to take, the best coffee spots or even the history of it all?
For Eric and Kate Turner they know all of that like the back of their hand. That’s what happens when you create a brand new history bike tour every other month for over 5 years.
They began this unique and refreshing tour out of a love for the city’s diverse history. After guiding tours for City Bike Tampa for a few years, Eric Turner realized that there were many unanswered questions about Tampa’s history during such tours. In an attempt to provide such answers, he ended up creating this bike tour with his wife. Depending on what mood they’re in that month, you could get a history tour on anything from old theatres to firefighters to even haunted places.
And their starting point? Kahwa Coffee every time.
“We picked Kahwa as our starting location because of its central location to the areas we tour and because I love their coffee! You can get to any of Tampa’s historic areas within a few minutes if you start in downtown.”
Eric’s all-time favorite Kahwa order is a large cup of strong black coffee, hot or iced.
“I also LOVE LOVE LOVE that you have vegan baked goods, I’ve been vegan for 7 years and having a solid baked good available is like finding a needle in a haystack.”
He also noted that it’s important to support your local businesses because that is what grows a community and makes it unique.
“Without local businesses you would end up with a strange blah town where there are little to no discernible characteristics. When it comes to coffee I don’t want my city over-run with generic burnt-tasting coffee peddlers who mask the bad coffee with whipped cream.”
History Bike Tampa’s next tour is September 1st at 10 a.m. If you are interested in participating, make sure you show up early to register and drink a cup of Kahwa coffee to wake up. For more information on upcoming rides check out their Facebook page.
